Is Contouring a Thing of the Past?

There’s a buzz in the makeup world, with many big players now declaring contouring should be forgotten. It started with Bobbi Brown.

Recently she was quoted in the New York Post as saying “When I see contouring on people’s faces, it looks like dirt”. That’s a fairly harsh critique of the trend that took social media by storm thanks to the likes of the Kardashians. Bobbi goes on to say “The contouring trend is so wrong because it tells women there’s something wrong with their face. There’s beauty in a full face, so I don’t like to paint in a cheekbone that doesn’t exist.”

Dior’s makeup artist Violette agrees. “Contouring is not our thing because the main beauty philosophy in France is to accept who you are,” she said. “We want to keep it simple. Even if we don’t have the best cheekbones, we put the focus on our lips or lashes.”

Perhaps it’s a good thing. It means you can get back to the basics, and make the most of what you’re born with. You can still use concealer and bronzer, but instead of creating false shadows, just highlight your best features. Make your eyes pop with a great mascara like The Cheater by The Balm (it is ok to cheat when it comes to luscious lashes). Why not draw attention to your lips with one of the fabulous shades available from Make-Up Studio.

Makeup is all about making the most of what we have, and making us feel beautiful. So why not embrace your gorgeous face and let your real beauty shine.
